Nothing new to post about...

so I'll just say that I've been losing at poker cause I've been playing really reckless, which for me to say that must be REALLY reckless. I haven't dropped too much even with the wild play so that's good. I've been getting really shitty hands that I keep folding. Poker is getting boring again so I think that's why I've been playing crazy. When I get a good hand, it always get folded around to me so I can't even play it. But since the hands I've been getting have been really shitty, when I have a good, non-paired hand, when I don't hit on the flop I've been playing those way to strong. Even small, suited connectors haven't been hitting, whenever I play those the flops are A, K, J. It's really pissing me off.

But Stel posted Damian's slide show video on YouTube so I'll probably have something to blog about soon.

Inner Homo

Not sure I should be writing about this but fuck it I will. A number of years ago Stel was telling me how great Bridget Jones's Diary was so I bought it for her when she moved into her place in Mililani. And some flowers which she killed within a week, but that's another story for another time. I had seen bits and pieces of BJD before but never saw the movie in its entirety. As I said in the last blog I was on a three-day mission to find The Godfather and wound up buying five other DVDs. Well... this was one of the five. I'm getting in touch with my homo side!

As I watched the movie, I began thinking, "Holy crap that's the female me!" Well, minus the occasional sex and having two women fighting over me :( But I probably cook as well as she does, I'm sure I can make blue soup. She's had a similar job to my job. I'm a male spinster!

Off-Topic: I'm chatting with Tania on gmail right now! She's back in school again lol. She's going into Anthropology and English, hoping to get into the master's program for second language studies.

Back to Bridget Jones. Is there something wrong with me if I thought she looked cute? Sometimes anyway not all the time. Everytime I see Hugh Grant movies I think to myself, "WTF was he thinking! He should get the shit kicked out of him by every heterosexual male for being such a fucking retard." I like Hugh Grant movies most of the time... like I said getting in touch with my homo side. Sirens is an all-time classic!

I went to the hospital this morning for a scheduled abdominal ultrasound. When I was at the doctor's the other week they told me they were gonna have me get one to see if they can see why my liver enzymes are elevated. I had elevated enzymes before and they told me to stop drinking, so I did, and the next month is was back down. Well it's been higher then normal the past 3 months so that's why I got sent for the ultrasound. Reading some literature online leads me to believe I have elevated liver enzymes because I'm a fat, lazy ass. So I'm starting a 35 year 4 day resolution to not be lazy anymore. Partially for my health, partially because I felt like a pregnant chick checking out her kid on the ultrasound machine. But the main reason is because WE are supposed to go snowboarding next year and I need to get into snowboarding shape. <3 snowboarding!

OMG!! I think I'm seeing a homo theme running throughout this blog. Watching Bridget Jones's Diary, liking Hugh Grant movies, getting an ultrasound, making a resolution. I guess it's a good thing I agreed to go out with Tania next weekend. She'll probably cancel like the last time we were supposed to go out though :)

Blog 1 A.B.

Damn you blog. I started last night but accidentally closed it and lost all I entered earlier. To my defense I was pretty tired already, it was 4:30am, I just finished watching Ocean's 13 and Once Upon a Time in China, two of the five movies I picked up on my three day quest to find The Godfather trilogy DVDs. I bought the collection when it came out, but somehow, some way, some person in our house (I have my guess!) lost the whole set. I've been to two Costcos, Wal-mart, Circuit City and Best Buy. I bought the DVDs so I don't feel like a jackass driving all around and coming home with nothing. Woot... I just ordered the trilogy off Amazon :) <-- emoticon just for you Beata!

Speaking of movies, I have this weird friend who has never seen Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, or Harry Potter. She says she doesn't like SciFi, which is fine, but she watched fkn Aliens vs. Predator!! WTF! How the hell do you watch AVP but not Star Wars?!?

When I started the blog last night I was listening to Led Zeppelin and decided I to look for something else to listen to since I listen to Zeppelin all the time. I dug around my bookcases looking thru CD books and you know what... to quote Beata, I need to punch myself in the vagina! Did I really buy some of those CDs? What was I thinking! I'm not saying what CDs I own, but I swear someone is fucking with me and stuck those Toni Braxton and Madonna CDs in my folder.

So this past weekend was my birthday. I'm now 35 ugh. Thanks to Jens and Judy for letting us hang out at their house. We celebrated by watching UH get beat like a red headed stepchild. I then got cheated at Mario Kart. While we sat around eating lunch, for some reason this stupid blog was brought up, and they spent what seemed to me to be a couple hours, reading the blog and bookmarking it on their phones and laptops. And then listening to people tell me I need to write a new blog and Judy being mad at me til I write a new blog. I know my life sucks, but you guys must have really shitty lives if reading my blog is that important to you! Hehe...

It was great seeing everyone. Especially Keiko. She's gonna pop any day now. If the baby's as hairy as Bobby, when he comes out he's gonna look like a baby badger.

At the party, someone brought up the Tania thing. For those of you who don't know Tania, she was a girl that hung out with us when we were in college. At the time, she was as innocent as I still am, but she started listening to Beata and the dirty flip and she's not so innocent now. Tania and I go out every once in a while. Actually, we'll go out a few times in a couple weeks, and then not talk to each other for a year til her next volleyball fundraiser.

Anyway, one night we went out to Sidestreet and she got drunk. I took her home but instead of getting out she's reclined in the passenger seat. She starts talking about random stuff, which is cool, cause I can talk about random stuff. But a half hour later she's still talking... zomg I want to go home already. No matter what I say, she won't get out. I even offered to carry her up the stairs! So she's still talking, then she springs this on me... if you're still single when you turn 35 and I'm still single, we should get married. WTF!! Of course I tell her no. Now I'm really trying to get her out. But she won't stop talking about that. She says she'll go upstairs when I agree to the "deal." An hour later, I'm still there, but I'm starting to crack, I'm really tired at that point and I just want to go. So I say "ok fine." And that was it, she got out of the car and went up to her apartment.

Ever since that night, people have been calling her my fiancee. It even became a joke for her, at least I hope so. For years whenever people asked me about her, it wasn't "Tania" it was "your fiancee." Whenever Angry Joy introduced people to her it wasn't, "this is Tania," it was always "this is Lum's fiancee," and Tania would play along and hug me or something. It was fkn weird.

The End!

Poker

I'm playing poker online at Full Tilt. I'm up a little. I play Hold Em and Omaha. I played a $10+$1 Omaha Hi-Lo tournament yesterday and came in 23rd. I lost because I see the kind of crap that people are turning over and winning with so I decided to play better crap then what all those guys play and the person I'm playing against actually has the nuts.

Party at the beach

Saturday in the park, I think it was the ninth of August. Ok, so not quite as catchy as Chicago's tune, but that was the date of Keiko's party this weekend. It was a combo birthday/baby shower party, but without the stupid games and other shower stuff. I didn't even know it was Keiko's birthday too. I'm thinking I should read invitations when I get them.
It was good times, good food, and good people. I haven't seen some of them in a long time, half a year or more since I last saw Leigh, Joc, Dan, and a few others. But it was a long day. Hot day. My face is sunburned and my skin is peeling. I actually used lotion today so I'm smooth and supple. Someone touch me!
I crushed my fingers carrying AJ's cooler. She needs to invest in a cooler with wheels or at least a cooler with longer handles. Kristin has great coolers!
I'm looking forward to this upcoming weekend. Golf with the club. 311 concert with Joc and Kelly. Gonna meet up with Leigh at the concert for a drink or two. Fun times!

<3 Omaha

I logged on at 2:30am to play some cards. I decided (against my best judgement) to listen to Keith and play 3 table 6-player hold em. I was getting fkn confused, I swear as soon as I put in a bet on one table the other 2 tables were beeping at me. Anyway I dumped some money because I was making bad plays and bad judgement. I felt rushed the entire time and I think it threw me off my game. I was pretty pissed (well as pissed as you can be for losing about $10)! I wasn't mad that I got drawn out on or that my cards weren't connecting, I was mad because I played in a situation that I wasn't comfortable playing and that in turn fucked up my judgement. So I decided to dump hold em for the night and play some Omaha! I love Omaha!

I raised half the pot because I only had the nut flush draw. When the guy reraised all-in I figured I was up against the set and not a full house. Since I had 2 shots at making the nut flush, two chances to hit an Ace on the turn or river to give me a full house, or I could backdoor the nut straight or the highly unlikely bull of runner runner Kings to give me a higher full house I decided to call. As you can see I hit none of the above.

After the other loss I built the stack back up a bit and came up with this hand. I raised half the pot on the flop because I had the nut flush draw and top and bottom pair. I was really in good shape when the Q hit to give me top 2 pair with the nut flush draw. When the 6d hit I thought I had it won and nearly shot my load when he pushed in. When the cards flipped over I got limp quick.

Looking back I should have raised pre-flop. I'm pretty sure everyone would still have called, but since I was in late position and I had a good hand, the odds were in my favor and I should have gotten as much money into the pot as possible.

Other than that, I think I would play both hands the same. Even if the cards were dealt face up. That's just how the game goes.

being the Champ

I must think very highly of myself to call myself the "Champ" right? Wrong... I don't call myself that, a lot of dumb people do. What is this "Champ" thing about? Well one night nearly 4 years ago I got lucky and won a pool tournament at Hawaiian Brians and since that time dumb people at the pool hall have been calling me the "Champ." I must have a lot of dumb friends because some of them started calling me the "Champ" too. It's definitely not a name I want to be called and it's definitely not justified. Yes, I won the tournament, but "Lucky Piece of Shit" is a much more appropriate name.

Winning that tournament has been a curse on my pool playing! I was playing really well for a couple years leading up to that Aloha Open. That year I won the Aloha Open I must have made $5,000+ playing tournament nine-ball. $3,500 for the Open, $500 for the Monday final, plus a lot of weekly and C class tournaments that I won or cashed in. Since then I've probably won $20! No joke! My game went to crap. I'm the David Duval of pool. And god damn I used to love watching that guy play golf.

I have this unnamed friend that I play pool with. We play sets race to 12 for 5 Starbucks. Prior to my winning the Aloha Open I used to spot 7 & 8 and win consistently. We increased the spot to 6 & 8 and I still won. Anyway, so I won the Open, and ever since then I can't beat this person. At one point in time, I owed this person almost 60 Starbucks!

This friend and I gave up pool for a while, but now they want to play again. So we've been playing. And I've been losing. What else is new right? Although I've been losing, I do see a marked improvement in my play. Although I still find ways to screw up, I run out more and screw up less. I can see myself winning again in the near future. It better be soon before I break my stick.

Since 2 of my readers also blog about poker so it inspires them to play better and rid themselves of mistakes, I shall do that for pool.

Mistakes
  1. missing the shot - I have a bad ball pocketing eye
  2. having a bad stroke - my stroke sucks, I have at best an ok poke stroke
  3. bad positioning - I can move the ball around table ok, but I either leave it straight in or behind another ball. Both of those are not good if you're trying to run the table.
  4. staying focued - I have a hard time concentrating on playing pool. I think a lot about how much I suck. And I find myself distracted.
  5. luck - I've been having bad luck. Very bad.
  6. skill of my opponent - my opponent has a lot of game. They can make shots I could only dream about making and makes them like they were hanging in the pocket. It's ridiculous how easy those shots seem when I know how fkn hard they are.

Good things I've been doing

  1. breaking the balls - I've been hitting the breaks really solid. Don't make a lot of balls, but I spread em good for my opponent to run out.
