I've been feeling a little down of late. Maybe I'm just stupid.
To cheer myself up, I baked a peach and strawberry crumble (thanks Giada). I dunno if baking cheers me up or if it just gives me something to do so I stop thinking. I was lazy and cheap so I brought frozen strawberries and peaches. I can't believe how much fresh strawberries cost, $6/lb!!! I had already spent $45 buying ingredients for dinner, I wasn't gonna spend another $15 to make dessert. It turned out good even though I didn't have sliced almonds and I had to use some chopped up oatmeal. But next time I know better and won't be cheap, I'll pay the money for the fresh strawberries and peaches.
Last night, I made country captain (Lee Bros. "Throwdown" recipe). It's kind of a stew with lots of flavors, curry, garam masala, a dried pasilla chile pepper, ginger, and garlic. It was very flavorful and tasty. Lots of stuff went in to the pot besides all the spices, chicken thighs which I cooked in bacon fat, currants (like a raisin), yellow peppers, tomatoes, onions, carrots. Darin said, "you should have replaced the beans with corn." "Beans? There's no beans," I replied. "What is this then?" "It's a currant!" My brother, his girlfriend, and my parents enjoyed it. It was warm, flavorful, and hearty, perfect for a cold evening. =)
Why am I writing on this blog? I haven't written here for a long time. I'm not sure why, but writing has always been something I do when I'm feeling down. Maybe I'll be posting more stuff again soon. Maybe not.
